High Dam, Unfinished Obelisk and the Philae Temple – Half day tour Ref: WAASW/01

Visit the world famous High Dam situated near Aswan, High dam was an engineering miracle when it was built. The construction began 1960 and completed in 1970, it contains 18 times the material used in the Great Pyramids of Cheops. Today the High dam provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt. Proceed to the Unfinished Obelisk found on the Northern part of the quarries. A short motor boat trip to the Philae temple, many legends connected to Philae the most known one tells the story of Isis and Osiris.

The New Nubian Museum was opened in 1997 it covers 50,000 square metres of landscaped gardens & buildings which are divided up into sections. It is partly an open air Museum where you can wonder around the paths between prehistoric cave with painted rock-art, ancient Egyptian statues, obelisks, and even a complete Nubian house.

 

Tombs of the Nobles –Half day tour Ref: WAASW/03

For this tour you can either take a ferry or felucca to the sand-covered hill which is strewn with rock-cut tombs on the West bank of the Nile. Where 6 – 7 Nobles tombs are opened these ancient tombs dating from the old and middle kingdoms they are rough cut tombs from the natural rock.

 

Nubian Village and St. Simeon’s Monastery –Half day tour Ref: WAASW/04

For this tour take a felucca ride across to the Nubian village to discover the simple and natural life  of the very kind and hospitable Nubian people. St. Simoen Monastery was called Anbal Hatre Monastery  and is located opposing the southern tip of the elephantine Island. Climb the mountain of St. Simoen, for our visit the principal church of the monastery was build in first 11th century or possibly earlier, in the 10th century and represents the oldest of its kind.

A picturesque trip by felucca a takes us to Elephantine Island to see the Nilometre, The Island is the largest of the Aswan area, and it is said to be one of the most ancient sites in Egypt, with artefacts which date back to the pre-dynastic periods. The island is beautiful while many of the artefacts are in ruins; you never get tired of wondering around. Continue to the Kitchener’s Island, it is a peaceful paradise, full of shady trees, beautiful flowers, and unusual plants among the paved walkways. The island is a heaven for rate exotic birds of many kinds.

 

Sound and Light at Philae temple – Evening tour Ref: WAASW/06

By motor boat to an island where Philae Temple is situated to attend the fascinating Sound and Light show. Since early century, the site of Philae was flooded for six months each year. An incredible restoration program was undertaken in the 1960s, and the Temple was moved stone by stone to a higher elevation. An extraordinary sound and light by walking through the site’s temples and gardens. The legend of Isis and Osiris and the history of Hapi, the god of the Nile, is narrated under the stars in the most romantic settings.
